Michele will introduce you to a bebop ‘short code,’ which is a short melodic idea that contains all of the chromatic characteristics of the bebop language. After some practice with the short code, it will then be extended to become a complete and very usable bebop idea.
Use the short code in your soloing on any tune; it’s a common melodic shape heard in zillions of bebop recorded solos! Getting several 2-3 bebop short codes under your belt is a great path to sounding quite jazz authentic in your soloing.
