ABOUT KATE REID
Kate Reid is associate professor of jazz in the Studio Music and Jazz department and Director of Jazz Vocal Performance at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. She directs two of the Frost’s three jazz vocal ensembles Extensions and Jazz Vocal I, teaches private jazz voice, improvisation and jazz accompanying.
As a singer and pianist, Kate performs often in various settings at clubs and other venues from Los Angeles to Miami. A member of the Screen Actors Guild and ASCAP, Kate has ample studio singing background with soundtrack credits including Planes, Star Trek Into Darkness and Tinkerbell: Legend of the Neverbeast and other network television series and commer-cial spots.
Kate was a co-author of the GLEE Vocal Method book for Hal Leonard publishing along with producer/author Andy Waterman of Umbrella Media. She often serves as a guest artist, adjudicator and guest conductor. She has worked as judge for festivals in California, Nevada, Arizona and in Ontario and Banff, Canada. Kate has served as the director for the All-State jazz choirs in Colorado (2017), New York (2016), California (2016), and New Hampshire (2015). She has a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University, a M.M. and D.M.A. in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami.
Kate is also featured as one of the demo singer’s on Michele’s app, ScatAbility.
