YouTube Playlist: Solo Singing

When prepping to sing a new tune be sure to learn the real, original melody. Though it’s tempting to learn the notes of the song from a recording by your favorite jazz singer, this can really get you into trouble! You may end up having his or her version of the song so strongly stuck in your ear that it could block you from developing your own creative rendition. Please be clear that listening to great recordings of any tune you’re learning IS highly recommended for sure, but make sure you first know the true original melody (as represented on published sheet music.) After that: listen to interpretations from great jazz singers and soak in their ideas, sound, style and feel!
