YouTube Playlist: Vocal Groups
This video (tips, ideas, thoughts) for developing vocal groups (of all styles!) was born from a workshop recently delivered at the Moscow Spring A Cappella Festival, 2018. Wow, there were 184 groups, 61 venues and 16 countries represented, all performing and competing for cash prizes at this event – rather impressive! (See link below.) As a judge for the competition, two of us were asked to present a workshop one morning about the basis of our judging criteria. It prompted me to consider: what does it take to create a really top notch vocal group, regardless of style of music or language? What are the most critical musical elements, what are the ‘best practices,’ what is the mind set? It was fun to come up with a “top 10” list of ideas (in no particular order.) You’ll also get to hear in this video a short montage of some of the groups that participated this year – wanted to give you a little glimpse into the spirit and vibe of this very unique festival!
